The Last Tear To Fall

about

Music, Lyrics and all instruments by John Lee Sanders

This was one of those melodies that dropped out of the heavens. In the early morning hours, are snippets of melodies, and if I don't write them down or record them they may be lost forever. They sometimes grow arms and legs, I think that was a quote from Sting.
I may have gotten the title but it's not so clear.
Back in the 60s I looked forward to the James Bond films for the story and the excitement, but I loved much more of the big score and the orchestration.
It was my fantasy and my dream to write one of these soundtracks..
I studied orchestration at the University of of Louisiana. My first arranging class was at the University of Illinois at the Downbeat jazz camp with Wes Hensel, coincidentally one of the students in my original class was Lyle Mays who was around 15 at the time and later became my piano teacher at the University of North Texas, and won 11 or 12 grammys one posthumously

The lyrical imagery which were of the news cycle 2022, such as ransom ware that someone could shut down a pipeline, accountability, life after death, wealth inequality, God and free will, tyranny and democracy, patriotism which are sometimes interchangeable, Climate change, and the apprehension of growing old.

lyrics

Rovers search for life on /Mars
Far from/ Stars and strife whitewash the scars
play the anthem, Pay the ransom /,
to some Cyber ninja phantom,
or the system trickles down to a crawl,
like a house of cards way too tall
Simpler/ time in my younger years,
in my prime, without a fear
We never learn from the past at all
But the world gonna turn till last tear gonna /fall

Takes a village, for a world, to grow and thrive
We the privileged, the weak and the marginalized
some would pillage, flames they would fan it
clear the brown haze over the planet
Or wait for the savior to arrive.
Or shoot a rocket, on a joy ride
Grapes of wrath begin to ripen when
Best laid path, of mice and men
Or ride out the storm
til the last tear gonna fall.

Bridge
Search for Justice, never sleep
Seems we’ve grown accustomed to the belly of the beast
when a hurricane rain crack your window pane
lose true north on your weathervane,
we throw a few crumbs and a crust of bread,
for body and soul must be fed
For silent tears we never shed.
Sooner or later soon or later, gonna fall

Is it our God that swings the wrecking ball?
When the façade hides the cracks deep in the wall
Some be sniffin out good trouble,
with the dogs. Among the rubble
Search for life or sadly none at all,
In that number someday we’re called
And those tears of a crocodile
May hide your fears for a little while
It’s a long way down for the last tear to fall
And no safety net big enough to catch them ALL
Surely won’t be the last tear to fall
I hope there be Tears of Joy, be the last tears to fall
,
