Let It Roll

from World Blue by John Lee Sanders

/

about

This is the opening track 1, when people used to buy cds. A very positive message to pursue your dreams. I was in a very positive spiritual place, playing with amazing musicians, and writers. The San Francisco Bay area during this time was a great diverse hotbed of creativity, diversity, not only music, but technology, and spirituality, and this song reflects much of what we were feeling at the time. I had just left an incarnation of Starship, on the road for 2 years, touring Europe with Long John Baldry, and playing locally with my own band in the San Francisco Bay Area. I was a session player on the scene there on some great sessions, and getting this first solo CD out was a milestone for me, doing most of the music and lyrics alone without a co-writer, something that I've come to see as an advantage, with some of the legal issues I've gone through these past few years.

lyrics

Sometimes I feel like I've been stuck
On a streak of bad luck
I can feel my wheels are spinning
I get nowhere pickin and a grinnin'
Got the same ole deja voodoo
But now I've got a different atitude-do
and lightning gonna strike twice
If I could have just one more roll of the dice
Let it roll, let it roll
Give me one more roll of the dice

I've been waiting too long in the wings
But it ain't over til the fat girl sings
I've been ridin on the luck of the deal.
A gut reaction is the way I feel
Got a million ways to move
but lowdown blues is the way I groove it.
honey I can melt your heart of ice
Just give me one. chance
and one more roll of the dice

Your mama had some good advice
Little girls got to be real nice
big girls take you to paradise
With a lot more sugar and a bit more spice
I'm betting you a hundred to one
You'll be mine before the night is done
It won't won't be no sacrifice
Just a kiss for luck and really decent
Roll of the dice

I've been sleeping on a bed of nails.
Waiting for somebody to pay my bail
playing the martyr, playing the fool.
But a victim of love never was to cool
I'm begging the Gods for a change of pace
Russian Roulette is a game I hate
Willing and able to pay the price
Put the cards on the table
For one more roll of the dice.

Chorus.
