How Long Do You Hang On To A Dream

from The Crossroads of Jazz & Blues, A Musical Journey by John Lee Sanders

about

Another of my favorites, writing with Chris is "How Long do you hang on to a Dream" written for Chris' daughter, Aubrey when she was an 11 year old aspiring singer. On one of those father-daughter talks, she asked her dad, "how long do you hang on to a dream",to become singing star, when the odds in making it in the biz are so tough, and when do you realize maybe it's like wishing on a star. Well, as beautiful as the song is, I don't know if we answered her question, but it's something we all must ponder in every life. I wrote the melody on the back porch swing on one last visit to my mother's home in Louisiana.
