Backyard Full of Blues (Lead Belly's Lament)

from Tweakin' Some Twang by John Lee Sanders

about

"Backyard Full of Blues, Leadbelly's Lament" featuring Butch Coulter, harmonica, Bruce Kaphan, Lap Steel Guitar, . Chris Caswell, and I, lyrics, John Lee Sanders, composer, a tribute to Lead Belly, the blues legend from Shreveport, near my hometown of Monroe Louisiana. I performed much of his music over the years with my friend "Long John Baldry", including Baldry's great CD, tribute to Leadbelly. The original mix of the sing included samples of the Alan Lomax chain gang recordings of Parchman Prison, 1948, in Mississippi, but after much legal back and forth, I was not able to secure a license, but I was able to get the vibe of the prison chain gang vocals, where Lead Belly spent much of his life in the deep south.
